Welcome to the UK Farr 3.7 Class website.
The class is a 'One Design', but whilst relatively new to the UK, is a well established class in New Zealand.
The first 3.7 was imported by Daryl Wilkinson in 2011 and the UK class now has several boats currently 'in build', with the first, built by Dave Barker now finished and sailing. The class also has a committed pro boat builder - Butler Boats, who have recently invested in the building of a mould for the production of foam and wood boats.
The 3.7 was designed by Bruce Farr in 1971, and reputedly Bruce still thinks it's his best!
The Farr 3.7 is a boat designed for small adults or youth sailors. With an optimum crew weight of around 55 - 75 kg, but due to it's well thought through 'one design' rule set, sailors from slightly below or above (50 - 80kg) can still be competitive, as there is enough freedom to tune / develop your rig to suit your size and weight.
It's a well mannered boat, that's simple, but exciting.
It's a great boat to; build, own, race and sail. It's sensitive. It isn't physically demanding to sail. It's also light to move around on shore, as the hull only weighs 50kg.
You also have the option to build the boat with an Asymmetric Spinnaker (for personal use only, as the boat is not currently raced with a spinnaker) this comes with no competitive weight disadvantage (see rules page) for doing so. As the spinnaker gear is counted as part of the hull's weight.
So in common with Bruce Farr himself we believe the 3.7 really is - 'The Best By Farr'.
